The fear of confrontation
towards firms, especially high-branded companies, by social activists provokes the justification for CSR. Some companies may realize the need to put CSR as their priorities for long-term advantages, but many changed their social and environmental policies due to their vulnerability and fright of being attacked. Nonetheless, as these threats are currently temporary, and the fact that consumers are ignorant of the significance of sustainability, CSR has been taken lightly by firms because of the almost-non-existent impact on their economy.
NGOs working with companies or rewarding organizations when they meet specific sustainability standards is not adequate to implement the importance of CSR. People have to be well-informed regarding the inability of the Earth to sustain the way we are currently living. Businesses have to receive continuous pressure to change their social and environmental policies, and produce positive sustainable impact. When all stakeholders realize the importance of CSR, and work hand-in-hand to impose burdens on companies to put CSR as their utmost goal, specifically through permanent financial instability for ‘irresponsible’ firms, then CSR will pave its way. Do you think changing people’s mind is enough to promote CSR? If yes, how?
