Welfare requirements have been part of the Early Years Foundation Stage since 2008. These requirements have been set in a way that ensures that all settings comply with the same standards. The general and statutory requirements are
• The setting provides ensure all necessary steps are taken to safeguard and promote the welfare of children such as i.e.
o The premises complies with health and safety and that there is suitable security in place o Information and complaints are recorded and secured safely and responded to effectively o Policy and procedures are updated and readily available to staff and parents o Safeguarding the children o Outings with children are planned and risk assessed correctly o Equal opportunities for all
• The setting promotes Healthy eating, good health and ensures that necessary steps are taken to prevent the spread of infections and policies are set for all staff to follow for the correct procedures for accidents and illness
o Medicines are correctly dated with correct name, given in a timely manner and stored correctly o Illness and injuries are dealt with correctly and recorded o Children with allergies are given the correct food, and all staff are aware of allergies and this information is readily available and stored correctly o No smoking allowed on the premises
• Children’s behaviour is correctly managed and in line with their development
o Behaviour management sessions available to the parent’s o Information and data readily available in behaviour management

We have a large setting with over fifty members of staff. We have designated people for reporting child protection issues and health and safety concerns. All our issues are logged onto reports and these are filed confidentially as all our documents are as some may concern children and parent’s information especially in internal referrals when staff make
