I work in a 26 bedded residential service for adults with learning disabilities and mental health illnesses. Under the health and safety at work act 1974 we have a legal requirement to ensure that we are to prevent or reduce the likelihood of fire breaking out. Guidance has been put together under the regulatory reform fire safety order 2005. This now covers general fire safety across England and Wales. This has replaced the fire safety precautions in the workplace act 1997. Fire reform act puts ownership of all fire safety procedures on to the employer in my case would be the manager of the service.
The guidance states that we have a duty to
Ensure we have general fire precautions on site have risk assessments in place have evidence of presentational measures in place have fire safety arrangements ensure we can reduce fire risk from dangerous substances and where possible eliminate this risk have fire fighting and fire detection equipment on site have emergency route and exits on site have a procedures in place for any areas that may have an increase risk have additional measures in place for any dangerous substances carry out regular maintenance ensure we have safety procedures in place ensure that employees are adequately trained

This aim is to meet the new requirements of legislation and the objective is to ensure that all staff, services users understand and follow the guidance for their own safety.
1.3
The ethical resources I need to consider are the requirements of the service users I support and their ability to understand what is being asked of them to maintain their safety. Training sessions for staff and the people I support had to be delivered at an appropriate level for the staff and service users.
