Cujo By Stephen King Summary

I’ve chosen a novel written by Stephen King. It is called Cujo, one of his best-known bestsellers. It was first published in 1981. I already read this book a year ago in Hungarian and I liked it very much. This was the reason why I decided to reread it in English. It was a good experience to me because it was the first time I had read a book in English. The other reason was that I really like Stephen King’s style. His books are not about commonplaces like love and happiness. This novel of his can keep you amused and make you burst into tears at the same time. It is about the cruel parts of life with a little supernatural to it.
The story takes place in Castle Rock, Maine. It is about two families, the Trentons (Vic, Donna and their son Tad) and the Cambers (Joe, Charity, their son Brett and their dog Cujo). Joe Camber, the local car mechanic, is a hard and
Donna tries to escape and find help but her attempts are unsuccessful. Moreover, Cujo has injured her on her leg. Because of the extremely hot weather it seems to her that the car will be their coffin.
As Donna and Tad fight for their lives, Vic tries to reach them on the phone but he cannot, so he asks help from the local police officer. After visiting the house, the officers tell Vic that his house wis topsy-turvy so he decides to come back to Castle Rock and tries to find his family.
Finally he finds them while Donna is killing the dog. She has made an end to Cujo’s rampage. However, the unmerciful fate takes away a vulnerable infant’s life. Because of the heat and the shock he experienced in the car, Tad passes away.
In spite of the fact that it is a horror story, we can have a look into two different kinds of family lives: their personal, real problems from drinking problems to cheating. We can see how a mother can fight to protect her child from a rabid dog or from an aggressive
