a. In Cullington’s essay, “Does Texting Effect Writing?”, she explains her personal experiences on the topic and does an extensive amount of research to find something that will prove her claim. Cullington main purpose of this essay is for it to reach out to teachers, parents and students and show them proof that testing does not affect their writing abilities.
b. In Wrotham’s essay, “I Had a Nice time with You On the App”, she explains how her and her boyfriend use apps to make it seem like they are with each other even though they aren’t with each other. Though Cullington did have a credible background and personal experience with the topic, her lack of credible sources makes the essay unreliable leaving it not effective. Wrotham successfully executed the used of personal experiences, emotional tie, and evidence throughout the essay leaving it more effective than the one Cullington wrote.
II. Ethos: Both of the essays successfully had credibility due to the authors’ credible background.
a. Cullington is a reliable source for the topic of texting and writing because she herself is a frequent ‘texter’ and as well a writer.
b. Wrotham is a reliable source for the topic of online and app dating and communication because she and her boyfriend use these ways to communicate every day. She can also can tell if there really is a difference in the way you communicate with people. This is because she has other personal relationships that she has that she can compare the difference to.
c. Because both of the authors are reliable sources on the topics they are discussing, this makes the use of bother of their ethos effective.
