Literary Analysis: character analysis
In the story of “Things Fall Apart “ there are so many cultural collisions but one person I would consider having a worse experience of it is okonkwo. In “Things Fall Apart” okonkwo goes through tough things like one is a death. Okonkwo loses men to Cristian's and does not like it. He loses his role of being chief of his clan. There are many cultural differences in this story yes it is hard for each character but the one that I believe had experienced it the most was him with the deaths, losing men,and losing a great life.
Okonkwo did not let the white men to do anything on their land when he was in charge. As it says “after the singing the interpreter spree about the son of God who've name was Jesu
Kristi. Okonkwo who only stayed in Howe that it might come to chasing the men out of the village or wiping them.”(146/6) okonkwo had not let things like what happened to his clan happen because he actually tried his best to protect his clan but when he had to leave to his mother land it all changed. When it says “and before the cock crowded okonkwo and his family were fleeing to his motherland.”(124/4) okonkwo had to leave because his mother had past away and in their culture when they are close to one of their parents they are to go to their father or mothers land so okonkwo was not leader of the clan.
Okonkwo's reaction to the new culture was not good because he did not like it because it took his men away from his clan. “Worthy men are no more okonkwo sighed as he remembered those days.” Him saying that the men in his clan were not worthy because they left to the new culture just because someone from the christians talked to them and convinced them to switch. “Is that coward, egonwanne his sweet tongue can change fire into cold ash.when he speaks he moves out men to impotence.” Okonkwo does not like how egonwanne can talk to anyone and convince them to do anything so he says he's a coward because he took his men.
The author made okonkwo leave out of the village for quite some time. “Okonkwo had commuted the female, because it had i had sertent, he could return to the clan after seven years.”(124/3) he made him leave to his mother land because she had passed away and he was committed to being with her. The author had high plans for the clan when okonkwo left and felt betrayed. “One member in particular was being difficult to restrain.” He made someone in the village betray them so that they can see who will betray them and to see who their real men are.
So now that we know about okonkwo and how bad he had it during the novel was rough with the death of his mother, having to leave his village, and getting betrayed. When okonkwo was in charge of the village he protected them in anything. He didn't let the white men take land. Okonkwo does not like that when he returned he saw that his men had joined the christians in the new religion. The author was doing good when he made the village feel abandoned and betrayed. The novel was a great book had so many different view of everything through culture and it opened my eyes to see that every culture is different and shouldn't judge anyone by their cover.
