Cultural Evaluation Paper
The language of India and the English has vast differences, and it is best to plan and research the language before presenting an argument to an audience in India. The language and cultural barriers between the United States and India are many, and before presenting an argument it is important to understand the cultural differences. This will ensure that the audience understands the point of view, and to make sure that the audience does not take offense to the word choice used during the presentation.
The Indian language is comprised of over 800 spoken dialects and languages which can make it difficult for the speaker delivering a presentation of an argument or business plan. Indonesians are indirect speakers, and they do not always mean what they say, and that makes is necessary to understand the culture or dialect to ensure the interpreter can read between the lines. The greetings are formal which is to show respect, and for business purposes the attire is business conservative. Indonesians regard loud speakers as slightly aggressive, and that is because the Indonesian culture is quiet and subtle.
The India culture is different from the American culture in regards to business. The presenter of the argument should make sure that the word choice is effective because the India culture will take time in making a decision, and do not conform well to pressure tactics. Word phrases such as “you should”, or “you need to consider immediately” would be looked as a pressure tactic and should be rephrased as “if you would consider the”, and “please consider this business proposal as”. Simply rephrasing the sentence will have more of an impact regarding the Indian culture because of their interpretation of the meaning.
