1. Introduction:
Bangladesh is a melting pot of races. She, therefore, has a mixed culture. Her deep rooted heritage is amply reflected in her architecture, literature, dance, drama, music and painting. Bangladeshi culture is influenced by three great religions- Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam in successive order, with Islam having the most pervading and lasting impact. Like a colorful montage, the cultural tradition of the country is a happy blending of many variants, unique in diversity but in essence greatly symmetrical.
1.1 CULTURAL HERITAGE DEFINITION:
Cultural heritage covers the diverse manifestations of human intellectual and artistic creativity, past and present, i.e. both the cultural heritage and living forms of cultural expression. Together with the persons and institutions responsible for their transmission and renewal, these constitute the 'cultural sector '. It refers to the concept of 'sustainable communities ' in which the economic activities will protect and enhance the human, cultural and natural resources that will be needed in the future.
2. Main body:
There are certain peculiar traits in the religious and cultural life of the Bengali people which have marked them out as distinct nation. The Bengalis have drawn more by the inner spirit of the religion then by its outwards forma or external rituals. Some of the elements or features of Bengali culture are discussed here.
2.1 Festivals:
A series of festival varying from race to race are observed here. Some of the Muslim rites are Eid-e-Miladunnabi, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, Muharram etc. Hindus observe Durga Puja, Saraswati Puja, Kali Puja and many other pujas. Christmas ( popularly called Baradin in Bangla ) is observed by Christians. Also there are some common festivities, which are observed countrywide by people irrespective of races.
