1. Share some of the background of your interviewee (or couple). What was this person’s/couple’s “story”?
The individual that I interviewed was very helpful. She was the manager/owner of a local business in the area. As the individual began her story, she reported that she came from her country in Mexico due to a request of her father. This particular individual’s father came to the United States in an effort to work. The father of the interviewer worked as a potato picker in the United States. While the father was in the United States picking potatoes due to the lack of time that he spent with his family, he applied for a visa for them. After eight years …show more content…
Remind yourself of the Biblical Worldview Lens material we considered in week 1 of this course (see the presentation titled “Interpreting Culture” in the Module/Week 1 Reading & Study folder). What are some strengths or elements of common grace that you see operating in this cultural group? How can we pray for people in this cultural group? There are several wonderful points made by this population. It is very obvious that family is an outstanding factor to this culture. As the focus point of the culture is positive in many ways, it is essential that these characteristics are highlighted within this cultural group. Although there are factors that can be highlighted within the culture, it cannot be dismissed that the culture suffers from many obstacles that can prevent further advance. As individuals are faced with these obstacles, pray is the only support that they may need. In learning the differences about the Mexican culture, the importance in learning about the clientele’s specifics culture (religion, sexual orientation, etc.) was more evident and expressed through the population. Throughout this evaluation of the Mexican culture, it was more emphasized that although people are stereotyped, there are ways that it could affect their life. After determining ways that this culture presents strength within their culture, prayer was very essential to the culture. As the culture continues to be faced with discrimination and other challenges, prayer is the only answer that can assist with the mending of broken thoughts, relationships, etc. In conclusion, prayer is needed as the challenges within the culture are revealed and they put trust within the Counseling
