Individualism in cultures means loose ties. Everyone is expected to look after one’s self or immediate family but no one else. Individualism is about the rights of the individual. Dubrin (2004) noted it seeks to let each person grow or fail on their own, and sees group-focus as denuding the individual of their inalienable rights.…

Ever studied for a test and still manage to receive a failing score? It happens to almost all of us. Schools may effectively or ineffectively design study material for a chapter, but to me it does not have a big effect of the overall resulting test scores. A high grade average depends on the students’ method of studying and comprehension, the way that the instructor teaches the material, and the way that the test it produced.…

Everything we as human beings come into contact with in the social world has a role, however minor, in helping to shape our individual identities. However, the question has been posed, is it culture and socialisation which are more influential as a social process in developing our identity or is it the social structures which are the main shapers in developing our identity? The culture we are raised in and the people that we come into contact with on a daily basis as a young child are the first encounters we have with socialisation. As children we imitate those close to us and habits begin to form. Through this imitation we also learn to express our emotions. These behaviours are ingrained in us from an early age and are the first basic building blocks we are given to develop our individual identities.…

How do life experiences form the core of an individual's identity and character? According to my research, life experiences form the core of your identity and character because, for example, you can experience a grief such as an death of a loved one for example, in A Series of Unfortunate Events: A Bad Beginning, Written by Lemony Snicket, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, experience a tragedy when their beloved parents died in a fire cause by the villainous actor Count Olaf, and because of that, the brave orphans gain responsibility and courage throughout their dangerous mission of finding the "Sugar Bowl" Thus, proving that life experiences shape the core of an individual's identity and character.…

Cultural identity is a huge part of who we are. Not only does it define our interests, it also dictates why and who we interact with. It affects so many things in our life that it can be hard to find anything at all that isn’t affected by it. For me personally, the biggest parts of my cultural identity are the food I eat, the people I spend my time with, and the music I listen to.…

My first reaction of the video was of surprised because I had not thought of that way like Ali Al Saloom. He explains about the cultural identity. I understood that for people appreciate you, most accept their culture in all aspects. The example that gave Ali Al Saloom it was a woman lived over 20 years on Arabia. She still did not accept about the women covered their hair. So it was wrong for the women because she doesn’t have morals of the cultures. She most appreciate all the cultures and do not critice them. The other part of the video that was important was when Ali Al Saloom share about his Colombia story. The moral of the story was that you should never assume others words of a culture. The words can change by the different culture perspective of the people. The last important word for all the video was respect. By having respect with other we can know the person and coexist together. What was the message? The message was that having respect to others cultures. We can change about our own personality, morals and grow up to be a better person. Also we can prevent conflicts with others countries by respecting their own point of view. This can help to the world if we appreciate the people cultures and thoughts. For me the cultural identity is a personas background and also how you can refer to a person. It is usually what they are from, the language because a language develops according to the particular needs of the people who live in a certain location at a certain period of time, who share a way of life and culture, it is clear that language is strongly intertwined with culture and identity. A certain richness of communication and connection is lost when a person is unable to speak the language of his or her ancestors. On the other hand, knowing the language of one’s ancestors provides a sense of grounding and belonging, like Ali La Saloom said about the English that they can also speak like in United States of America. And the religion, the food according…

I am a 27 year old female who was born into a white, middle class, college educated family. My family’s cultural background is made up of Eastern and Western European nationalities. The largest percentage of my ethnic background is Lithuanian, but there is also a mixture of English, Irish, Danish, Scottish, and French. For the most part my ethnic background has not played a large part of who I am today. I am a fifth generation American so our family has long since assimilated into the American culture. Also because I come from so many different ethnic backgrounds my family never identified with one specific background over another. I have found that one of the benefits of not having a singular ethnic identification is I am drawn to, and have developed friendships with several people of single national ethnic backgrounds, who strongly identify with their cultural traditions. These relationships have allowed me to experience the practice of ethnic traditions first hand. Each new unique ethnic experience has helped me to grow as an individual because they taught me to reach out of my comfort zone and try different things. I have also found that when I show a sincere interest in someone’s background not only are they very willing to share their heritage but also I have been able to develop strong friendships.…

Two paining, which I choose they are traditional painting. When people watch this painting (color and thinking). It is easy for people think about traditional culture. Two pictures show people for peaceful. The sculpture I chose is the Yungang Grottoes “The work on this first period of carving lasted until the year 465 AD, and the caves are now known as caves 16–20. Beginning around the year 471 AD, in a second construction phase that lasted until 494 AD, the twin caves 5/6, 7/8, and 9/10 as well as the caves 11, 12, and probably 13 were constructed under the supervision and support of the imperial court. The imperial patronage ended 494 AD with the move of the Wei court to the new capital of Luoyang. All other caves emerged under private patronage in a third construction period, lasting until 525, when the construction came to a final halt due to uprisings in the area.” Buddha is important in Asian culture, there are many believers. Regarding the cultural identity, I chose the film Yong Zheng Dynasty,Young Zheng was a Emperor, “A hard-working ruler, Yongzheng's main goal was to create an effective government at minimal expense. Like his father, the Kangxi Emperor, Yongzheng used military force to preserve the dynasty's position. Suspected by historians to have usurped the throne, his reign was known as despotic, efficient, and vigorous.” This film, which deeply introduces palace politics struggles.…

The development of our identity is strongly influenced by socialisation. The environment and people around us form our lifestyles and create who we are and the values that we grow up to learn and accept. Family, peers and location are the some of the socialisation factors that influence an individual’s identity. There have been two particular theories which show the impact that socialisation has on identity. Jean Piaget based a theory around the cognitive development of a child up to adulthood. Abraham Maslow based a theory more-so on the various needs that a child gains through their journey to adulthood, however on Maslow’s theory a person can progress and regress through the stages. Both of these theories are based on the ‘nurture’ side of development because socialisation impacts ones identity.…

Everyone is different in their own way therefore, language can be a major factor that can influence one’s identity. The theme cultural identity and differences is important in our community, the way we treat others and how we stereotype someone. I chose this theme because it portrays the importance of maintaining your culture and not allowing someone’s stereotype of your culture impact you. Cultural identity and differences throughout my texts is formed mainly between 2 or more cultures in each text. The four texts I chose are Ka Kite Bro written by Willie Davis, The Red Sari written by Apirana Taylor (these both are short stories), Bred in South Auckland written by Glen Colquhoun(poem), and in the film Bend It Like Beckham directed by Gurinder Chandha.…
