EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The culture in Thailand has a heavy influence on daily business practices. The Thai people are very proud, highly religious, and mild mannered. Understanding the cultural norms in the business environment and social setting will be hallmark for success with our new branch opening in Bangkok.
My conclusion that it would benefit our company to inform and consult team members from XYZ Company on policies and procedures in Thailand come from various reference materials including books and from speaking with people who have lived in and visited Thailand.
Analysis of the data revealed benefits in three areas:
Historical Background: Thailand’s extensive history is based on a four thousand year timeline with much government and militaristic change
Ethnic and Demographic Composition: Thailand is a relatively small country with little ethnic diversity.
Cultural Norms: Greetings and business practices are directly related to the countries strong Buddhist belief structure.
On the basis of these findings, it is recommended that XYZ Company provide specific language software to help aid in learning the Thai language. Learning some of the basics of the language and using it at home as well as practicing some of the customs and greetings will be beneficial for all involved.
