I worked in long-term care for many years, progressing from a frontline dietary aide worker to supervisor. During that time, I continued my studies towards becoming a certified Long-Term Care Administrator. Eventually I completed my studies and was hired into a senior leadership position with a healthcare management company. It was in that role I learned about leadership, teams, business practices and continuous improvement. The company I owe this learning to is Diversicare Canada Management Services. Diversicare put me strategically into a facility that recently went through bankruptcy. The first year working at the facility was very busy. My primary focus was on team building and empowering employees. That first year we participated in a number of peer reviews and continuous improvement initiatives. Obtaining my Health Administration degree through Athabasca University opened many career opportunities for me. Upon completing my degree I was successful in being hired as a Corporate Services Manager for two hospitals and a health clinic; North Wellington Healthcare. The position allowed me to be involved in major decisions and projects that impacted healthcare locally. While working for North Wellington Healthcare I was directly involved in the construction of a renal dialysis unit. Due to the media attention around this wonderful project, I was sought out by a talent agency and offered a position to work with teams and projects at Bruce Power. Bruce Power appealed to me as an interesting and highly technical industry. The work was in a totally different industry where I would have the opportunity to learn new skills, while utilizing my existing leadership experience. I gladly accepted the First Line Manager position as a progressive step in my
