This is an essay to argue culture is a tool used by management to limit resistance. I totally agreed that culture can be used as a tool to limit resistance. I used ‘Leadership in Desperate times: An analysis of Endurance: Shackleton’s incredible voyage through the Lens of Leadership Theory’ to explain how did Shackleton communicate with his workers and what did he react during against resistance. I used ‘Being an active member of a corporate alumni network: a critical appraisal’ to explain when post-bureaucratic management were introduced and the main idea of post-bureaucracy. I used “The Polyarchic Bureaucracy: cooperative resistance in the workplace and the construction of a new political structure of organizations” to explain bureaucracies are exist which are difficult to fix, it may destroy the company structure and how post-bureaucratic face the dissent with an example for listening to the lower. I used ‘Culture’ to explain how culture can be used to share commitment to all classes and giving more autonomy, discretion or freedom to the employee. The culture can develop and spread to the downward in a post-bureaucracy.

According to the Shackleton’s case, even though the goal of “Endurance” had not been achieved, Shackleton totally showed us his leadership that led his crew back to safely. Although he has technical skills that certified as Master at age 22, and was qualified to command any British ship anywhere by age 24, he has the power but it could not affect the communication with lowers. He showed high concern for both people and production. Many leaders enjoy the hierarchal separation between themselves and lower level employees, On the other hand, he chose another way that he ate, slept, lived with his employees on a daily basis and he would ask employee of their point of views.
