Culture Of Poverty
Strengths and characteristics that rise due to the “culture of poverty” theory are that it forces people to be responsible for their own livelihood, One example of responsibility created due to the situation presented comes from Quinones’s book, he describes an uninterested population, unstable home, and un-nurturing parent of Delfino, the protagonist of one of his studies. Nevertheless, Delfino takes it upon himself to solve his problems and those of his families. He does this by moving to Mexico City and finding a job, there he joined an organizational structure comprised of co-workers who in turn help him find a stable place to live and maintain his job. Once Delfino is well established there he is able to help himself and his family by
providing a steady income and a communication network with a larger more organizational environment that in some way influences the people of his community.
