Curley's Monologue From 'Of Mice And Men'
I sit in the barn, while petting the puppy. I pet the puppy as softly as a I can, “Why do you got to get killed? You ain’t so little as mice. I didn’t bounced you hard.” I look at my little puppy, laying dead on my arms, knowing that George ain’t gonna let me tend the rabbits. “This ain’t no bad thing like I got to go hide in the brush. Oh! No. This ain’t. I’ll tell George I foun’ it dead.” I could tell George that! But maybe he’s gonna know I did it. George won’t let me tend the rabbits no more.
Why did the puppy had to die? It weren’t so small as a mice. It were suppose to go to the farm with me and George. He won’t let me tend the rabbits no more. I guess it wasn’t big enough. You would’ve been with me to go to the farm with me and George.

I di’n’t know you’d get killed so easy.” I continue petting it. It lays on my arm, I see that Curley’s wife is front of me.
“He’s scared Curely’ll get mad. Well, Curley got his arm in a sling… an’ if Curley gets tough, you can break his other han’.” If George sees me talkin to Curely’s wife than I won’t tend the rabbits. She’s gonna to be askin’ bout the pup that’s lying dead on. “ Why, he’s dead.” “He was so little. I was jus’ playin’ with him… an’ he made like he’s gonna bite me… an’ I made like I was gonna smack him… an’... an’ I done it. An’ then he was dead.” I didn’t know he would die, just like the mice. It was quiet inside the small white house with a couple of animals outside. There are three small bedrooms, but only two are occupied. There was no other house in sight. Without Lennie it didn’t feel right to have rabbits at the house. Nothing has been the same since the death of Lennie. George has been either working outside or sleeping. George and Candy have not talked much. If they do talk it is only about work. George and Candy stayed at the ranch until they got enough money to buy the house. The days at the ranch after Lennie left were rough. Curley was either at a bar drinking away or with a different girl each day. The boss got a new worker to replace Lennie. The new worker had a very bad attitude and was extremely rude. Luckily shortly after the new worker came Candy and George earned enough money to buy the house.…

Although Curley is Always asking her whereabouts, but never interested in talking to her shows that Curley sees his wife as a possession rather than a person. Slim calls him out on this, saying “If you can’t look after your own God damn wife, what you expect me to do about it?” (Steinbeck, 62). This, of course, leads to the aforementioned encounter with Lennie. Furthermore, the relationship that Curley breeds with his wife is by no means a good one. They both harbor resentment towards each other, as shown when Curley’s wife says “Well, I ain’t told this to nobody before…I don’ like Curley. He ain’t a nice fella.” (Steinbeck, 89). She then goes on to talk about her dreams and aspirations, and then says that she merely settled for a marriage with…

Another quote I found interesting was when the mom said “The edges of the grass are turning brown and poor peter (rabbit) is gasping in the heat, but you’re cool and fresh and dancing. This quote is showing the minor responsibilities like looking after a rabbit comes last often when we have “boyfriends” and “friends” That we always tend to put first rather than care for the one that need us the…

Thankfully, George didn't seem to be mad at me. He didn't seem to be mad at me at all. We were both beside the brush far away from the ranch, infront of a vast river. Across the river was the Gabilan mountain range, which reminded me of the rabbits that I would soon be able to tend with George. I asked him to tell me about the other guys an' about us, like he's done before. Then I asked him to tell me how it's gonna be in the future, at our farm. I love it when he talks about the farm, and the way he describes it is so dreamy. Once again, it felt as if I fell into a deep trance by George's words; I could imagine all the rabbits and the alfalfa, the cows, pigs, and chickens.. All in our very own farm where we have our own freedom. As George…

In the book, Of Mice and Men, Curley is the antagonist who creates problems for George and Lennie. He is a pugnacious man who is small in stature. Curley has a Napoleonic complex and tries to compensate for his small size by fighting with people who are larger than him. This makes him feel bigger. The reason he is able to intimidate everyone by fighting, is that he has power over everyone. Being the boss’ son he has no fear of punishment and is able to do anything with impunity. He uses his freedom as an advantage, while he can fight someone and not get into any trouble the other person will and will not fight back. Lastly, he has an excuse to fight; Curley is small and if he thinks someone bigger than him is intimidating he can fight them.…

He returned to the calm, cold ranch and quietly entered the workers bunkhouse. The men all lay in a deep slumber from the hard days work. George sat down on his damp bunk and stared at Lennies old, deckendant bunk. George was angry, he believed that Curley had defeated his intelligence and won. He turned to the white-washed wall on his bunk and his mind started to project memories of the times him and Lennie had shared in the past. A tear trickled down his cheek as the picture of Lennie face after he had dropped to the floor was replaying over and over again in his mind. He tossed and turned uncomfortably on his bunk going through all the options he had and how he came to the dyer end that it did.…
