Although Curley’s wife was married to Curley, she was extremely lonely. Curley isolates her from all interactions with other people on the farm. She was supposed to have a friend for life in Curley, but she believes that Curley was mean to her and she would continually express how lonely she was and how she never has anyone to talk to. No man on the farm ever wants to risk talking to her in case Curley were to find out, as he was the boss's son and could easily get them fired. Curley works all day and rarely puts aside time for his wife as he should be. She just wanders around the farm all day looking for people to talk to but rarely has any luck.
