Man, is a social animal, is also a religious or spiritual being. Religion is major concern of man. Man has not only social, economic and biological needs but also spiritual needs fed by religion. Religion is universal and its institutions have spread in society everywhere. When man faces problems, observe others dying, falls ill, looks to the natural events like thunderstorm, earthquakes, wind storm, floods, rains and draught he is feared from supernatural power called Allah. For the sake of seeking psychic relief and adjustment in social life he adopts religion.
DEFINITION OF RELIGION:-
Durkheim defines religion as “unified system of belief and practices related to sacred things”.
Ogburn defines as “An attitude towards super human powers”.
COMPONENTS OF RELIGION:-
1) Belief in supernatural forces: Religion is a matter of supernatural and superhuman forces. Some people believe in several kinds of forces are called polytheist while many others believe only in single God are called monotheists.
2) Man adjustment with supernatural forces: Man believes that he is at the mercy of the supernatural forces. He exceeds his subordination to them by means of prayers, hymns and other acts.
3) Some methods of salvation: Every religion has its own explanation regarding salvation. It is regarded as ultimate aim of a devotee. The Buddhist called it a Nirvana and Hindus termed Mukti.
STRUCTURE OF RELIGION:- Religion has following elements in its structure:
