Key elements of consumer legislation associated with beauty therapy
Consumer legislation is a group of laws and organizations designed to ensure the rights of consumers as well as fair trade competition. The laws are designed to prevent businesses that engage in fraud or specified unfair practices from gaining an advantage over competitors; they may also provide additional protection for the weak and those unable to take care of themselves. Consumer protection laws are a form of government regulation, which aim to protect the rights of the consumer.
In the beauty therapy there are no specific laws associated with the industry.
Having said that clients are still protect by a number of consumer laws.
Consumer rights
By law consumers have the right to :
Basic goods and services
To be protected against the marketing of goods or services that are dangerous to the clients health
To be protected against dishonest or misleading advertisement
To be compensated for shoddy goods or unsatisfactory services
To the knowledge and skills to be informed to the client.
