CYBER LAW The first issue is what is and what could be the potentially risky behavior of the Facebook members. Facebook is one of the examples of social networking sites. Social Networking Sites (SNS’s) is an online service, platform, or site that focuses on building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people. For example, people who share interests or activities. A social network service essentially consists of a representation of each user (often a profile) his/her social links and a variety of additional service. Most social network services are web based and provide means for users to interact over the internet such as e-mail and instant messaging. Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, activities, events, and interests within their individual networks.
However, it seems that SNS’s provides more harm than good to the users and non-users. Firstly, social networking site raise the issue of defamation. Defamation is defined as the act of defaming, false or unjustified injury of the good reputation of another, as by slander or libel; calumny. Through the social network, cyber defamation is easily spread within a click. The spread of the defamation were caused by the number of friends that the users connected with. Moreover, this defamation also spread widely by the usage of instant notification in the social network. Besides that, the defamator was hard to be trace by public authorities. It was due to the use of fake account and anonymous account.
Secondly, the user of SNS’s is exposed to the spam messages. Spam means as disruptive messages, especially commercial messages posted on computer network or sent as an e-mail. Most spam activities were done through chat and messages, download toolbar, give up e-mail address, give up phone number and similar blue and white ads. The spam activities are easily done by the SNS’s because the users give out too much personal data on SNS’s; users are easily tricked by games and
