Abstract
Cyberbullying is indeed the talk of the cyberspace nowadays. It is defined as being an aggressive, intentional act or behavior that is carried out by a group or individual repeatedly and over time against a victim who cannot easily defend him or herself. The goal of the current study was to examine the statements used in cyberbullying and their effects to the victims. A structured interview with 20 college students were conducted. As a result, the study came out with five distinct bullying statements such as cacoment, indicriment, metament, threatment and affrontment. The effects of these statements to the victims were similar with that of the earlier studies conducted such as depression, hopelessness, decrease of self-esteem and loneliness. These findings would imply an easy promotion of cyberbullying awareness in order to combat it.
