As you can see in the picture, Regan is floating above through mysterious powers. She is not in control, the demon is in full control, while the priests are performing to exorcism to cleanse Regan from the demon. In this scene, they are also throwing holy water at Regan to hurt the demon physically. Following this scene, Lankester is found dead from a heart attack when confronting the demon by Karras and begins to physically choke the demon. The demon then possesses Karras but before he is fully possessed, he jumps out the window to save Regan. The cycle of the demon is ended and Regan has no recollection of the events regarding her possession. The movie illustrates the event well, although it is very obvious that it is quite exaggerated.
