Tish and Iqbal are separate in every way but one. They are brought together by their problems. They did not even cause these problems, yet they are the one’s being punished. Iqbal is a slave. Tish is a girl that’s doing her best.”How can my mother be such a wimp?” (Haddix 73) Both of these texts are separate from each other. They portray different stories and different texts. Yet at the end of each books they become similar. Iqbal helped me realize that I'm so fortunate. That i’m blessed and protected. Iqbal stands for what he believes is right, he stands for himself and all the other kids that our slaves. “I’m not afraid,” (D’adamo 92) He stands for everybody. Tish is not the same. She is quiet and afraid. Help is right in front of her yet she ignores it. She pours her feelings into her notebook. This notebook is her way to escape. Every Time she closes her notebook she meets reality. "As long as you're not reading this, I can just put down whatever I'm thinking" (Haddix 15). A reality that she can not escape. Both Iqbal and Tish are stuck in these worlds that they can’t get out of. Then they both stand up for what they know is right. Iqbal was tired of being in carpet factories working as a slave. Tish was tired of being alone without support. Both of them made a stand. While Tish was “rewarded” with love and a new life, Iqbal was faced with reality.
