The Normandy landings( also known as D-day) was an attack that took place at June 6th 1944, it was suppose to be happen at June 5th but it was delayed a day because of weather at sea. The operation happened in 2 stages, the airborne attack (air forced) and the amphibious attack (mixture of land and sea). The Paratroopers used in the airborne, it was something that was never used in warfare before witch meant it was a risk to use. Guys who got who put parachutes were jumped out of some planes and landed behind enemy lines.24,000 British , Canadian, America and some French took part in this invasion. The Amphibious attack got on ships and landed in France at around …show more content…
6:30 AM .The Ships were tightly packed and dangerous. D-day was the Largest Amphibious attack ever (approx 160,000 troops), (approx 5000 ships,). Some say that that D-day was the turning point of the War, from Normandy they tried to invade Berlin which was there Goal because Hitler was there and if you could get to there you could end the war that was the whole purpose. I do not think that this was the most significant point of World War 2.
The Battle of Britain, in my own opinion was more significant than D-day but not the most. Britain won the battle because they knew exactly what to do and they had great tactics and technology to beat Germany where as D-day relied more on a Risk and Luck in my opinion. Between July and October 1940, The German planes bombed Britain’s cities and the RAF. During all this the RAF destroyed 1733 German planes while only loosing 915 planes by October 31, the British had won the Battle of Britain. When the Paratroopers jumped of their planes it was dark and landed into enemy lines, many people had no idea where they were when the landed and many things went wrong. For example a lot of soldiers missed their Drop zones( where they were suppose to land), their equipment got lost sometimes losing their gun so you can imagine the confusion caused by this. Also the ships that carry soldiers when they reached France the doors opened and instantly people got killed after that if you’re still alive run and try making it to the beach and then finding cover which wasn’t easy to simple to find. If Britain didn’t win the Battle of Britain the Hitler probably would had have used his Operation Seal lion which was his plan to invade Britain. If Hitler did manage to control Britain the D-day would have never had happened because the Invasion couldn’t start at England because it was under Hitler’s control
Pearl Harbour is a naval base on an island and on the morning of December 7th, 1941 the Japanese sent out a complete surprise attack with their Naval Fleet.
A lot of soldiers were sleeping when there suddenly some explosions and gunfire everywhere. The soldiers get up and go to their post to try kill the Japanese most likely to be very little protective gear like they would have if they had time to prepare or knew that the Japanese were coming. The American Aircraft were parked tightly meaning getting them in the air would take time and guns had no ammo in it because it isn’t loaded giving the japans a massive advantage. At the time America was not in the War they were giving some help to allies but the Japanese was the thing that brought the USA in to the war. Before this America some people were anti war over the next couple of days men signed up to fight in the war. The Japanese casualties rate was incredible lower than the USA the Japanese won the attack on Pearl Harbour but i think that attacking Pearl Harbour caused the Japanese to lose the war because if America was never involved in World war 2 they wouldn’t have a greater chance of killing enemies. Pearl Harbour is significant because they gave so much man power and resources to their allies. If USA was never in he War then the outcome of D-day would be very different since 90,000 of the soldiers involved in D-day were American, although if the USA wasn’t involved in D-day the allies may still have a chance of taking Berlin but the War would of lasted longer. The USA was one of the most powerful counties in the world, before the Americans entered the war the Germans were considered ahead and winning the war so far. England fought extremely well to defend their country and winning many battles but Hitler was very strong and England would have surrender over some time, but when the USA joined the War it turned everything around .In only 3 years, their Enemy was defeated and the War was over which is why I
think Pearl Harbour was the most Significant turning point.
The Battle of Stalingrad (23 August 1942 and 2 February 1943) was where the German army and its allies fought the Soviet Union for the City called Stalingrad. Like D-day it was one of the bloodiest battles ever. The Battle of Stalingrad is more important and significant towards the war because whoever controls Stalingrad has access to lot’s of industries , Volga river which is used to ship supplies also they both wanted then caucus oil fields which would mean that refuelling tanks and other transport to help the war greatly. The Soviet Union won the Battle in the end and may have not won the war if they didn’t control Stalingrad. If D-day failed the consequences wouldn’t be as large as if the Soviet Union didn’t capture Stalingrad because they can try invading Berlin later.
D-day is not the most Significant or important turning point in World War 2 , although one of the several important battles.
