DCI Mission Statement

DCI (Drum Corp International) is a professional marching band competition where Brass, drumline, and color guard perform with no woodwinds. DCI has been having a downward trend, but the corp members still continue to march the corps they want to regardless of this fact. DCI in a way is a connector, mason, and trendsetter because even with its downward trend in interest it’s making money, connecting people, and changing the marching and performing arts. DCI’s mission statement is “We seek to promote and inspire unparalleled excellence in music and performing arts throughout the world”(DCI) They want to improve marching band and inspire others to help. DCI isn’t a walk in the park, it’s a bunch of hard working athletes who pay to play in these
corps. How it works is; A person who wants to join auditions (Video or in real life), they get a score and either get a contract or try again next year. From my own personal experience I know this because I tried out for The Canton Bluecoats. The Canton Bluecoats won championships last year at Lucas Oil, they are an extremely hardworking corp. Most people must be physically and musically amazing to march it. They mentioned that their corp members go to the gym on a regular basis. Not only do you need these skills though, you need to be good in social situations. For three months people are on tour practicing, then they go and compete. These people are stuck together every single day and this doesn’t work if someone can’t cooperate and is bad socially. People who join this corp grow close to each other and meet new people who share the same interest as them; which is marching and playing their instrument.
