Figure 4.3: DSC Thermogram of Chitosan.
The thermogram of pure Chitosan shows dehydration at 78.7 ° C and the second thermal event may be related to the decomposition of amine (GlcN) units with correspondent exothermic peak at 295° C. Reported melting point of Chitosan is 101-200 ° C .The heating rate of 10° C/min was used. Also the starting of exothermic peak at 296° C confirms the degree of deacetylation of the chitosan as >75% which is desirable for nose to brain delivery [8]. Figure 4.4 DSC Thermogram of Sodium TPP Kouchak M. et al, reported the endothermic peaks of TPP at 120° C and at 210° C.[9] The obtained thermogram of pure Sodium Tripolyphosphate shows melting endotherm at 118° C and 197.2 °C which is comparable to the reported peaks in literature. This confirms the authenticity of TPP utilizing DSC. Figure 4.5 DSC Thermogram of Poloxamer …show more content…
et al reported the melting peak of poloxamer 188 at 55.99° C.[10] The obtained thermogram of pure Poloxamer 188 shows sharp melting endotherm at 52.15° C, proving the authenticity of the excipient as Poloxamer 188. Figure 4.6 DSC Thermogram of physical mixture of mirtazapine and excipients
The DSC thermogram of the physical mixture of Drug and excipients shows the sharp endotherm at 112.88°C which is comparable to the endothermic peak of the pure drug obtained at 114.91 °C. Table 4.5 shows the individual melting points of the drugs and excipients and the endotherm obtained on analysis of the physical mixture.
