Daisy Buchanan Character Analysis

For my Independent Reading Requirement, I read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald which is a story about a man chasing the woman he loves. The character Daisy Buchanan, one of the main characters in the book, really shows the IB Learner Profile ‘communicators’ throughout the story. Another character named Tom Buchanan shows the exact opposite of the profile “caring.” Starting off, Daisy shows communicators because she speaks with a lot of the characters throughout the story. Being a communicator means speaking with others in some sort of way to share ideas or thoughts. Many characters communicate throughout the story, but Daisy seems to do it most. Page 130 to 133 shows a big conversation that Daisy had with her husband, Tom, and
Before this, Gatsby was driving on the road out of control and accidently ran over Myrtle. He never stopped the car and tried to help her, but decided to drive away hoping nobody would catch him. Wilson took action and thought it was Tom. Tom did not want to get hurt, so he told Wilson that the car that ran over Myrtle was Gatsby’s. Wilson came over to Gatsby’s house and shot him dead with a revolver. “‘…His hand was on the revolver every minute he was in the house-’” (Fitzgerald 178). Tom was selfish and only cared about his own safety. He did not care one bit about Gatsby because he had no second thought about saying something else to calm Wilson down. He laid all the blame on Gatsby and just let him die. “‘He ran over Myrtle like you’d run over a dog…’” (Fitzgerald178). Tom even compares Gatsby to a dog which shows how much he does not care about Gatsby. All in all, the profile communicators connects to the character Daisy in the classic literature book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald while Tom does not show caring. Daisy spoke to many characters throughout the story to share her thoughts on a subject. Tom does not show caring especially to Gatsby because of his anger towards him and feels he cannot trust
