He has created many glass sculptures, and established educational programs, he innovated by using persisting and thinking flexibly to overcome his eye injury, and illuminated the world by inspiring others to persist and keep trying.
Dale Chihuly is an iconic glass sculptor who has created many glass sculptures and founded art schools throughout his career. He has created more than a dozen series of artworks, and his work is featured in more than 200 museums around the world ("Chihuly," 2015). Dale Chihuly also co-founded Pilchuck glass school in 1971. This school teaches students how to work with glass as a medium, and it is still open and running ("Dale Chihuly Biography," 2015) ("Chihuly," 2015). The main challenge that Dale Chihuly has overcome was losing an eye in a car accident. This injury did not stop him from continuing his career. By using the habit of mind "persisting", he did not give up on glass blowing. Chihuly found an alternative by using the habit of mind "thinking flexibly". His alternative was to not blow glass by himself, but direct the process of others (Zax, 2007) ("Dale Chihuly Biography," 2015) ("Chihuly," 2015). This is a good alternative, as he thinks it might be possible for him to mount a large installation, it would be way too time consuming (Zax, 2007). Overall, because of his injuries, Dale Chihuly has found that it is better for him to direct the work of others in order to pursue his art
