Dallas Cowboys Tight-End Case Study
Tight-End Thursday: Evaluating the 3 best in Dallas Cowboys History

The Tight-End position has drastically evolved throughout the history of football as they have given greater productivity to offenses than in the past. According to the NFL, in 2011 of the fifteen players with the most receptions 5 of them were tight ends.

The first question one must ask themselves when ranking a position on the field is, “What characteristics and statistics make a good tight-end?” So that is where I started.

Jason Witten- Career Stats as of 2014: Receptions- 943 Receiving Yards- 10,502 Touchdowns- 57

You do not have to a Dallas Cowboys fan to know current tight end Jason Witten. In 2003, Witten was selected by the Cowboys as the 5th pick in the 3rd

He is currently the leader in a couple categories for the Cowboys franchise and a the NFL.
Including:
Cowboys all-time career leader in receptions
Cowboys record for 18 receptions in a game by a tight end
NFL record of 18 receptions in a game by a tight end
NFL record of 110 receptions in a single season by a tight end
He is second all time in career receptions and receiving yards by a tight end

Despite the numbers that all three receivers have, what puts Witten in first place for me is his leadership and toughness. Remember when his helmet was knocked off, but he kept fighting for yards? He is also a huge proponent of the NFL Play 360 program. 13 seasons in and, Witten continues to add to his career.

Jay Novacek- Cowboys career Stats: Receptions- 422 Receiving yards- 4,630 Touchdowns- 30

Novacek finished his career playing for the Dallas Cowboys from 1990-1995. He is a five-time pro bowler who was selected to play 1991-19995. In 2008, Novacek was inducted into the Football Hall of

As a co-captain of the 1964 National Championship Arkansas Razorbacks, Jones is one of a very small number of NFL owners who actually earned a significant level of success as football players. He is the only man in the history of the National Football League to play for a collegiate national championship football team and own a Super Bowl winner. A man of varied interests, who will not rest on yesterday’s achievements, he is a dedicated businessman and family man - sharing a vivid enthusiasm for both. Since he took over as general manager in 1989, the Cowboys have drafted 24 different players who have gone on to appear in a combined total of 85 Pro Bowls. Dallas has also signed nine free agent players who have made 22 Pro Bowl appearances while representing the Dallas Cowboys. Since 1989 the Cowboys have made 122 trades, the most celebrated of which was the 1989 deal that sent Herschel Walker to the Minnesota Vikings; and provided the personnel foundation for three league titles. In the last 31 years, 33 different owners have entered the National Football League. Of that group, only Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft of New England have guided their franchises to more than two Super Bowl championships. Moreover, Jones joined Art Rooney, Jack Kent Cooke, Al Davis, Eddie DeBartolo and Kraft as the only men to have won at least three Super Bowls as NFL owners. Jones is one of three NFL owners who also have the title or powers of…

McCoy, a former offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos knows how to win; he helped the Broncos to their second-highest win total in franchise history as they went 13-3 and entered the playoffs as the number one seed in the AFC. American football as we know it originated from rugby played in Britain in the mid-19th century. The person who Americans consider the “Father of American Football” is Walter Camp. Professional football can be traced back to 1982, when there was a $500 contract for the Allegheny Athletic Association and the Pittsburgh Athletic Club to play a game against each other. Originally football was primarily a sport of the Midwestern industrial towns in the United State. In 1902, the American Professional Football Association was formed and two years later the National Football League. The competition was fierce between the two leagues, which led the two leagues to merge. Football eventually became national. When the two leagues merged is when…
