Introduction:
In this assignment I will be looking at the history and development of the 6-speed synchromesh gearbox. With diesel passenger cars accounting for the majority of the European car market, and becoming increasingly popular around the world, manual transmission has been revolutionized. Although a simpler concept, they offer greater performance and fuel efficiency compared to the Automatic Transmission System.
I will source my information from notes I have been given in class, engineering books from the library, and reliable/well known websites. I will also source some information from people in the industry who work with 6-speed synchromesh gearboxes on a regular basis.
From doing the assignment I hope to extend my knowledge of the history synchromesh gearbox, the construction and operation of it, as well as any recent developments in the 6-speed synchromesh gearbox. I will also write about what we can expect to see in future gearboxes.
I am looking forward to doing this
