legacy for the next group of dancers. Thinking that some of the younger girls at my studio look at me the way I looked at the “big dancers” when I was young not only blows my mind but inspires me to work harder and be the dancer they want to become.
I give my time, my sweat, my hard work, my weekends, and my heart into this dance studio. I inspire others, I serve as a role model, and I’ve completed an unholy amount of service hours to this studio; Dancentre South has become my second home. I’m so honored to not only be apart of but to contribute to the community it creates. Not only am I a leader in Dancentre South’s internal community, but I’ve served my local community through dance as well. My studio performs at a local event called “Riverfest” that donates all proceeds to the humane society every year. Throughout the 5 years, I’ve danced at Riverfest, I’ve had to perform outside, in the blistering heat, and in the rain. While these things are extremely unpleasant at the time, I still had to maintain my leadership position and act professionally. During these performances, I have always tried to remind my fellow dancers that we are here to perform and help the humane
society. I always try to keep my team focused, calm and collected. Dance has allowed me to learn the pure definition of being a leader in my community, in my studio, and among my fellow company members. These past 12 years have taught me to be the person that someone else strives to be; in order to be a great leader, you must lead by example. While I won’t be dancing next year, the leadership capabilities I have learned over the past 12 years will carry with me throughout college and the rest of my life. I am now able to rally together a group of people for a common cause, lead by example, encourage and help others when they’re down, and keep a group focused and concentrated at the task at hand. I’m forever grateful for these skills that I would not have if not for dance. I don’t know if I ever would have come of out my shell, much less be a leader, without dance. I’m eternally grateful for the skills Dancentre South has provided me with, and I intend to return the favor by using these skills to pay it forward and use them in a way that can change the world.
