My opinion on the issue of dangerous dogs is they shouldn’t be banned because of these reasons. I think that these so called ‘dangerous breeds’ shouldn’t be banned because it is only a few individuals from those breeds that are attacking. What about the families out there that own a very tame and gentle pit-bull that they have had in their family for a long time and have had no problems? Do you really want to take away that families treasured pet? It would be like ripping a family member from their household.
Also all breeds of dogs can be dangerous and harmful if not trained or taken care of properly. Every dog has the potential to bite. What if Chihuahuas start becoming aggressive and dog attack numbers start rising in the Chihuahua breed? Then will you ban them too?
Some people say that it is the dog’s fault that they attack and that it is in their nature and in some cases this is true. But other times it is the owner at fault. Dangerous dogs are created most of the time by irresponsible owners not genetics. Dogs are like young children. They need to be taught and trained to listen and do the right thing. Dogs need to be trained so that they learn not to be aggressive and dangerous.
Another reason is that if you ban one type of dog for being dangerous, you might as well ban all dogs because dangerous dogs can exist in every breed and breed cross. The key to minimising the number of dog attacks is education. In other countries that haven’t banned certain breeds of dogs, it has proven to work- in one case resulting in the reduction of dog attacks by almost 50% in just two years.
My last reason why I think they shouldn’t be banned is because banning pit-bulls would be like banning cars because people get killed in car accidents. Who is at fault here, the driver or the manufacturer? Any car can be deadly in the wrong hands or if built with faulty parts. Same with dogs. They aren’t responsible for the way they were
