Dangerous Driving

Millions of people have been in or heard of a dangerous drunk driving car crash. Some have ended very badly and some have had a lucky outcome. Drinking and driving is a major risk to yourself, other cars on the road, any passengers you have, or any pedestrians. In 2016 alone around 10,300 people died in DUI (driving under the influence) accidents. Every year the death toll increases. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wants people to “get involved and help us keep the roads safe” (nhsta.gov).
To start off, one person dies every 53 minutes due to driving under the influence. The age division proved to be driving under the influence the most is young adults ages from around twenty-one to thirty-four. If your blood alcohol concentration is above .08 percent you are legally intoxicated. Loss of judgement, exaggerated mood, loss of muscle coordination, and slurred speech are only a few of side effects when your blood alcohol concentration is high. Both organizations are coming out with powerful campaigns and propaganda to spread awareness about how dangerous driving while under the influence is. Another goal of organizations who are trying to prevent drinking and driving is wanting to make the roads safer for everyone. Slogans like “drive sober or get pulled over”(NHTSA pg.1) reminds everyone not to drink and drive and if you do you will face consequences. The advise everyone who is going out for the night that are going to be around alcohol to plan ahead of time. Like for example, having a friend who is going to pick you up or calling a taxi.
