With the growing of economy in the world, the transportation of dangerous goods has significant growth. For the increasing of transportation of dangerous goods in the world, it become very important to involve in the supply chain understand for the transportation, storage and handle dangerous goods in order to reduce accidents (ASEAN 2011).
Carriage of dangerous goods cannot treat as normal goods (non-dangerous goods). The difference is the risk of leakage during transportation, it will lead to the loss of human lives, harmful and dangerous for the environment and wildlife (Zhang & Zhao 2007).
The safe transport of dangerous goods is one of the most challenges. (Mawson 2003). The regulations governing transport is an important component of the transport system (Coyle et al. 2000). Regulations continuous increase over the years and across regions, countries or states to enforce safety transport (James 2002).
The objective of this case study is to provide an insight into how regulations affect the supply chain performance of transportation of dangerous goods. The research areas include regulations, classification of dangerous goods, packaging, marking and labeling, documents and training.
Methanex is a world largest Methanol manufacturer. Methanol is one of the goods that used in everyday life and treated as dangerous goods. Mainly, Methanex is following the maritime transport organization (International Maritime Organization) to carriage Methanol, since the federal transport organizations, such as Canada Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), United States Department of Transport (49CFR) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) have much more limitation (e.g. packaging instruction, limited quantity…etc.).
