Answers: (a) Life in the old South Africa was filled with conflict, and South Africa was isolated by the other countries. Answers: (a) The "covenant" that Mandela says the South African people are now entering one that is going to build up the society. (b) One idea from his speech that is especially important is, when he talks about bringing up the nation as "a rainbow nation that is at peace with itself and the world."
