Daniel Monologue
BEGINNING

“Daniel.”

The voice that called out was not creepy nor friendly. Who knew his first name by full? His parents and his best friend Madeleine. He was trapped. In a dark room. Nothing good of this situation.

Think, Daniel, think!

He tried to figure out what was going. Helpless, he would kneel and pray to Jesus for help. He always believed that God would help those in the darkest of hours. When he began his prayers, he sensed something. He didn’t hear or feel it. He sensed it.

O God, give me strength is this dark hour.

Amen.

“Daniel…”

The voice was there again. He couldn’t hear it physically but it was visible and could be heard mentally. He tried to focus on it but it was useless as him trying to solve the algebraic equations his maths teacher set him. “Daniel… Daaaaaaniel…” the voice was most… angelic… like an angel singing the gospels. Dan’s breathing tighten when he felt hands encircle his neck, as if trying to choke him and plunge him deep into a pool of frozen ice.

“Daniel… did I ever tell you… the moment I laid eyes on you… you made me fall on the ground?” The chuckle resounded off the dark room, lighthearted and cool. It was not that voice he heard earlier.

“...you made me swirl everytime we met yet…”

He felt a finger slide down his spine, sending waves of chills through his body. The pleasure was almost too sensual. Then...

… the foreboding silence…

Wham!

Just like that, the momentum of him crashing onto the wall was painful. The person was bashing his head on the wall repeatedly as the voice enunciate each word: “YOU. NEVER. NOTICED.

As I began my journey to the vast history of Indigenous people flicking page after page and over what felt like a lifetime I was persuaded to embed the words exchanged between William and the Gadigal tribe particularly with a young girl named patyegarang within the novel. And also to construct the scenarios, the events in which they take place. To create a story line that was able to connect all of these was a tremendously difficult hour and hours rifling through these pages learning more about the native s of this land it was truly remarkable. In my early stages of writing I came across an obstacle I wondered what the protagonist’s character will be like.…
