On weekends, she is responsible for cooking dinner for both of them, laundry, and cleaning. Danielle is still a student so during the school week she lives with her two housemates at a house near her University. In all, Danielle currently has four houses: her mom’s, dad’s, Chris’, and her house at school. She says, “my role is to just be independent and take care of my stuff, as they take care of theirs.” Many young adults across the globe are forced to get a job for financial reasons or when parents wish to teach their children what it means to be independent. She consistently worked at Giant as a cashier for about four years, but due to the rising amounts of school work last semester, she decided to stop working until the breaks. Having a job has taught her responsibility, patience, and the true meaning of professionalism. There are often times when you just have to grin and bear it and the customer is always right even when they are wrong. One of her coworkers became one of her best friends and is currently one of her housemates. She’s responsible for paying rent each month, electric and cable bills and going grocery shopping. Danielle shows her responsible and cleansing nature by often cleaning the houses she occupies, but mostly her house at school. College has forced her to become independent with taking care of herself with stuff like eating properly. Her and her housemates follow an east schedule so everyone knows when they are responsible for certain chores and such. Many of the household jobs are the same things she has been doing all her life and will continue to do as she grows
