A story about the Petersen family and the car dealer “Walter Auto”
The Petersen family, consisting of parents Carol and Christian and their three teenage children, lived in Odense. They wanted a car that was better than the old Opel Vectra from 1997, which they had at the moment. On a website, where both private sellers and companies could put their cars up for sale, the family found a used Ford Mondeo for sale at 149,000 DKK. This was in October 2013, and the seller was the used car dealer “Walter Auto” in the town of Copenhagen.
Christian phoned up Walter Auto and explained that he wanted to buy the car, if the Petersen family could also sell their used car at the same time. After some discussions on the phone they agreed to trade in the Opel Vectra for 20,000 DKK. During the telephone conversation Christian mentioned several times that his family consisted of 5 persons and that they needed a new car for a family of this size.
Walter Auto sent a contract by email, which contained both the purchase conditions for the Ford Mondeo and the sales conditions for the old Opel Vectra. The contract was sent as a PDF file, which Walter Auto asked the Petersen family to print, sign and return. Carol and Christian immediately printed and signed the contract, scanned it and returned it to Walter Auto. Walter Auto also signed the document.
A few days later they had to go to Copenhagen and collect the new car and hand over the old one. Carol and Christian set off towards Copenhagen in a good mood. Carol was especially in a good mood, because she had a secret to reveal. When they got to the Great Belt
