Area 51, also officially known as Groom Lake[1] or Homey Airport (ICAO: KXTA) is a remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base. According to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the correct names for the Area 51 facility are the Nevada Test and Training Range and Groom Lake,[2] though the name Area 51 has been used in official CIA documentation.[3] Other names used for the facility include Dreamland,[4] Paradise Ranch,[5][6] Home Base, Watertown Strip,[7] and most recently Homey Airport.[8] The area around the field is referred to as (R-4808N).[9]
It is located in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States, 83 miles (133 km) north-northwest of Las Vegas. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of Groom Lake, is a large military airfield. The base's current primary purpose is officially undetermined; however, based on historical evidence, it most likely supports development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems.[10] The intense secrecy surrounding the base has made it the frequent subject of conspiracy theories and a central component to unidentified flying object (UFO) folklore.[6][11] Although the base has never been declared a secret base, all research and occurrings in Area 51 are Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).[6] In July 2013, following a FOIA request filed in 2005, the Central Intelligence

It is there, where Chechens and Uzbeks as well as other battle-hardened terrorists would conjure up in the winter months and prepare for the fighting season ahead. Operation Anaconda was originally planned to use American and Afghani soldiers to assault the Al-Qaeda forces and block them, using the terrain as a bowl to surround the insurgents. Coalition forces would then flank and destroy the enemy that was routed into the valley. What was never realized is that the enemy forces built and occupied dug in fighting positions on the steep valley slopes, and had massed a force of nearly 200 fighters, which was ultimately a gross miscalculation, due to the enemies’ capabilities to augment hundreds more. In total, there was an estimated 1000 AL-Qaeda fighters encountered by US and Coalition Forces that day.…

The first major aerial activity occurred at Muroc in 1937 when the entire US Army Air Corps participated in a large-scale maneuver. From then on, the bombing range grew in size. When Arnold became chief of the air corps in 1938, the service was given a renewed focus on research and development. Muroc Field drew attention because the nearby dry lake was so flat. Arnold described it as “level as a billiard table” that it could serve as a giant runway, ideal for flight testing. Over $120 million was spent to develop the base in the 1940s and expand it to 301,000 acres (470 square miles) The base’s main runway, fifteen thousand feet long and three hundred feet wide, was completed in a single pour of concrete.…

I am writing to you in regard to the conspiracy theories surrounding Area 51, and the lack of evidence to support these conspiracies. The conspiracy theories are centered on the belief that there is extraterrestrial life within Area 51.
