Black has shared some of his most memorable moments, good and bad, with me. The first of his many great experiences was a nerve-wracking one. HIs ship had to go through a minefield and they knew it was a minefield before they even started driving through it. There was a constant thought in the back of their minds that any one of the mines could blow up at any time and everyone on the ship could be seriously hurt or even killed. To add to the stress of all of that, he had to drive part of the time while passing through. Another one of his most memorable moments was when a ship named “The U.S.S. Hornet” was struck by a mine. The mine blasted a giant hole in the ship and the ship was starting to get filled up with water. This was where it was his time to be able to step in and help the situation on his own. He was the leader of this operation in which he had to take one of the ships and his crew and they had to go rescue the people from the ship. After all the people were evacuated from the ship, him and his crew and the crew from that ship repaired the hole and got the ship in good condition again. His third most memorable moment was when there was an earthquake in California and the Bay Bridge collapsed. At this time, people were not able to get across the bridge to go to work or wherever they needed to go. He was in charge of driving the ships back and forth from Oakland to San Francisco. All of this has played a life-changing role in how he lives the rest
