Day Of The Butterfly, By Alice Munro

The short stories take place in different times and places such as “Day of the Butterfly” written by Alice Munro takes place in Canada and is centered on a young girl named Myra who is bullied by her peers. One girl befriends her, but the reader finds out the Myra isn’t at school anymore because she has leukemia. “Another Evening at the Club” written by Alifa Rifaat takes place in Egypt and is about a wife named Samia and her husband Abboud. When Samia loses her wedding ring she accuses the maid of stealing it. The husband has the maid punished, but Samia realizes that she just misplaced the ring. Both stories share the universal theme of the importance of status in different parts of the world. Despite the difference in cultures, "Day of the Butterfly", written by Alice Munro and "Another Evening of the Club", written by Alifa Rifaat share the universal theme of the importance of status.
