MY GOALS IN DAYSTAR
As a communication student, the long term goal is to become one of the most successful people in the media. Daystar has a history of creating stars and it is my goal to become one after completing my course. However there are various goals that will eventually lead to the ultimate goal. My first small time goal is to become a master of the English language through the various English classes being offered at the school. I have also taken the initiative of borrowing a different book every three weeks which will help me familiarise with how different authors
present their English language skills to help me enhance mine. Secondly I want to understand people as this is one of the bases of effective communication. To achieve this goal, communication and culture classes are playing a key role as I am learning how to create understanding between humans through topics like communication is a process, the messenger and the message and many more. Thirdly, every journalist must be comfortable with handling a video camera as well as a DSLR. I have booked studio time at the studio where I go every Friday to practice using the various cameras available to me. This is one of my main goals and the availability of cameras and a studio have made it much easier for me and any other student with that similar goal. My last short term goal which is to instil confidence in myself as a journalist. I have done this by taking a leadership role in a few of my classes. This leadership role is being the class representative. This initiative puts me in situations where I have to deal with different students from very different cultures and backgrounds. Learning the best ways to communicate with them boosts my confidence, which is key for a journalist who has to interact with a diverse community of people both at work and out in the field.
