If all of us were as strong as Superman, we probably wouldn’t have to worry about preventing injuries. We could leap from rooftops, run through fire, bend steel rods, and halt speeding automobiles with a screech without anyone ever saying, “Don’t try this at home.” Unfortunately, we are humans, and for us, trying such feats will result in fatal injuries.
Injuries can upset our routine and prevent us from achieving our goals. A fractured leg before a soccer match will keep you on the sidelines. A trip to the hospital for an x-ray or stitches might make you miss a qualifying exam for which you worked so hard. And then, we all want to avoid pain. So it’s important to learn how to avoid injuries. Reducing or avoiding harmful or risky behaviors will prevent most injuries.
Jasmine is writing a paper on preventing injury for her health class. She decides to get started by setting up a question-and-answer session with her health teacher, Mr. Vender.
