The purpose of this paper is for the student to identify and relate four developmental phycology topics and concepts to their childhood. They will do so while referencing “Invitiation to the Life Span” by Kathleen Stassen Berger and 2 other scholarly references. A person’s childhood is not only a critical time for physical development but for also psychological development. In this paper I utilize 2 articles and our class textbook “Invitation to the Life Span” to show critical points in my childhood psychological development. The first of my four concepts is the idea of play, where I utilize a story from my child hood to relate what is said in Kathleen Berger’s “Invitation to the Life Span.” My second topic, bullying, references Rebecca Griffin’s…

In today's society people are living longer, healthier lives as compared to the yester years. Now the average lifespan of the everyday American has risen almost 30 years since the 1920's and continues to rise due to the built up immunities to old diseases, widespread education causing more doctors to be in the office, technological advances leading to the medical advances we are constantly using today and tomorrow, the media output of disease breakouts, and the personal knowledge of the everyday person of what is and what is not healthy is what is contributing to the ‘longer life.'…

In order to truly understand the life span perspectives we must first define developmental psychology, which is a field that falls under the topic of psychology that is centered on describing how individuals change and grow throughout the stages of their life. This field has also been noted to be one of the more popular fields to be studied. We, as humans, must first grasp the concept that before there can be an outcome there has to be a process or a beginning. We can always trace anything that exists back to a beginning, for people this beginning is birth and the developmental processes that follow are individual pieces of the life processes. Charles Darwin had a longing to understand just what evolution was and exactly how it worked; from this desire he drew the study of lifespan development. Adolescence and norms were first introduced to those in the field of science by way of a G. Stanley Hall publication (Boyd & Bee, 2006).Within this book these scholarly individuals could read about the first observational studies of children. Within this paper you will find the definition of lifespan development, a description of the many characteristics of the lifespan perspective, and the identifying factors of the human developmental domains and periods.…

As a result of reading Dr. Atul Gawande’s Being Immortal, I found myself contemplating old age and end of life care from a couple different angles, which I suppose was the goal of Gawande while writing his book. As it turns out, I knew very little about end of life care before reading this book, but now feel as though I have some guidance to at least begin thinking about what that should look like. Not only did this book encourage me to think about my own mortality, but also that of my loved ones. I was somewhat forced to think about how I would want to live the last years of my life, if I knew how my parents wanted to live, and compare those ideals to the reality of how our current society treats those living through the ending years of their…

Low healthy life expectancy is the imprecise number of years an individual or group of persons in a country is expected to live, staying healthy and free from disabilities. The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines healthy life expectancy as the “average number of years that a person is expected to live in full health, subtracting full health due to diseases and injury”. Low healthy life expectancy in the developed world is caused by several factors such as, life styles, climate, diet and the environment. These are problems because they reduce healthy life expectancy, and to solve this problem, government should increase the awareness of people and also provide proper health care and facilities. An individual could be aware of their life expectancy but this awareness does not state how much of their life they would enjoy in good health, free from disabilities (Kaplan, 2010). Low healthy life expectancy is a key problem in the developed world today, the factors, problems and solutions will be analysed in this essay.…
