Adam, being one of the luckier children to survive past the age of five still had many challenges ahead. Water being extremely scarce was often sought out. Adam’s family owned a small cotton farm, which needed a lot of water forcing Adam and his parents to walk many miles to gain enough water for just one day. These trips were not without danger, many times Adam had to run because of elephants. Adam learned to avoid these beasts at a young age. At the same time of their freedom Chad received their first president. Less than five years after gaining their freedom, Muslims began a civil war within Chad. During this war people in a nearby nation, Libya, decided to join Chad's battle. The people in Libya were not doing this just to help Chad, but to gain control of it. The president banned the Libyans off of Chad's soil so as not to lose his position of leader.
Despite Adams troubled life, he continued to work as a cotton farmer until 1976. In 1976 Adam attended a small school, so he could teach children about Chad's history and geography, but was famous for his teaching on natural resources. One of his teaching on natural resources went like this,
“ Now children, since we have learned about most of Chad's history in the 1900, i think it's time we talked about what resources Chad would provide for the French.
