Dead Poets Society Quote Analysis
Evaluating Dead Poets Society through the Archetypical lenses there is various symbols and quotes from the book. One would notice that in Dead Poets Society this is a lot of symbols and quote with a dark meaning behind them. Such as when the Dead Poets Society starts a session in their secret cave they start by saying “ I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life,” (Kleinbaum 26). At the beginning of this quote i seems very peaceful but, it takes a darker turn near the end. By saying this when the marrow is sucked out of something it kills them. So by reading into the quote one could see that the quote want them to end or kill life in the end.another quote from when neil

First of all, the government doesn’t always protect the patriot and defend the patriot the same way the patriot does for the Government. This is evident in numerous moments in American history and it is also shown all throughout the novel,\ “Lord of the Flies”. Simon was a very devoted and efficient member of the island community. He often listens and follows what Ralph and Piggy say. Although, this sense of loyalty and trust that Simon had toward Ralph ultimately lead to his demise. One of the major issues that the community of children had in the island was the constant fear of the beastie, an imaginary monster that lives in the jungle, that cause the “Littluns” to have nightmares. Simon finds out there isn’t a beast, instead it was a dead skydiver. He runs back to inform everyone that there is no beast but his community turns on him and kills him (quote). When the oldest of the community realize what they have done, they covered up his death by dragging his body into the sea and convince the littluns that he was the beast by saying "I expect the beast disguised himself”. Simon died trying to help his community,…

The Narrator also says things that are just about impossible. In the beginning of the story, he says, “I heard all things in heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in Hell.” (542). He is saying that he can hear things that know one could ever hear in their lifetime. He is being very dishonest, because practically everyone knows this is not true. Another example is when he says, “The ringing became more distinct-it continued and became more distinct…” (546). The ringing he is referring to is the heartbeat. The heartbeat of the man he killed, chopped up, and stuffed under the floorboards. This is impossible; to hear someone’s heart beat we need a stethoscope. We need certain tools, but he thinks he can hear a heartbeat with just his ear, and nothing else. Some people can’t hear people talking from across the room, and the majority of people can’t hear anything from a mile away. This shows he is untrustworthy, and he could be telling a false story.…

The times of the Holocaust may have been the most unjust decade known to the world. Elie Wiesel was a talented American Jewish writer and Holocaust survivor. He had the heartbreaking experience of facing discrimination against different races, including his. He said, “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” I think that the beginning of this quote suggests that there will be scenarios in which groups of people will be helpless to stop injustice. While, the rest of the quote means we can not give up without trying. An example would be a shooting an innocent man because of race. The family may be helpless to voice their opinion, but others will peacefully protest.…

“Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely. When Lord Acton, an 1800s English historian, spoke these words he was warning others that if one person is given too much power, there will likely be consequences. He also stated when someone is given absolute power, there is not a doubt that person will become corrupted. In the same fashion, characters in The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, abuse power or are affected by the abuse of power. In the beginning of the book, Matt, a young boy, leaves the confinement of his home for the first time only to realize he is a clone, which causes him to be isolated and treated like a wild beast by Rosa, a maid of the Alacran Estate. After six months, El Patron takes Matt under his wing and provides…

In the Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, Douglass uses rhetorical devices to convey his meaning that slavery is the worst possible experience for humanity in a contemptuous tone. Douglass states, “the wretchedness of slavery, and the blessedness of freedom, were perpetually before me.” This use of antithesis in parallel structure is used to convey his meaning by contrasting the two ideas of slavery and freedom, showing how extremely awful or beautiful each is and to show the differences between them. The use of the word “wretchedness” creates a contemptuous tone in this quote. He then goes on to state that upon arriving in New York he felt “like one who had escaped a den of hungry lions.” This simile is used to show the extent of his fear when in the south, showing how slavery is the worst experience for humankind. This comparison is made using a scornful tone, shown by the dehumanizing of the South through slavery. Next, Douglass explains that during his stay in the North “[he] was afraid to speak to any one for fear of speaking to any one for fear of speaking to the wrong one, and thereby falling into the hands of money-loving kidnappers, whose business it was to lie in wait for the panting fugitive, as the ferocious beats of the forest lie in wait for their prey.” Douglass writes this long sentence for the rhetorical effect of imitating the style of a person ranting, or speaking uncontrollably due to fear to show the horror of slavery. This is written in a bitter or scornful tone through his descriptions of the fugitive kidnappers. Douglass also includes that “[he] saw in every white man an enemy and in every colored man cause for distrust.” This almost equal parallelism is used to compare the common fear Douglass had for both races. The negative outlook on both races shows Douglass’s disdainful tone. Douglass further explains his outlook when he states his motto at the time was “Trust no man!” This…

The Crucible is not only a recounting of the Salem witch trials. Behind this story, Arthor Miller most wants to say is the essentiality of humanity. The most representative thing is what people do is mostly to satisfy their own interests, so mush as willing to believe outrageous lies when those lies serve their interests. Arthur Miller develops the characters to present this theme. His depiction of Putnam couple, Reverend Parris and Judge Danforth, which could effectively prove this theme.…

As Confucius, a very old Chinese philosopher, once said "Life is very simple, but we insist on making it complicated." The aspects that make our society more complicated and corrupted are our emotions and actions. Philosophers make the journey through our life more simplistic, by creating logical and sensible quotes based on real events that occur during their life. To create these quotes philosophers use the tool of didactical reasoning. If the characters in the tragedized book, "Lord of the Flies" heard about Confucius's philosophy, it may have caused them to experience less adversity. These characters experienced emotions such as fear and victimization which impacted them through the book in a negative way and were the factors of the…

While reading the Stranger I noticed a pattern of avoiding emotional words or describing events that for a normal person would have great emotional impact. ”Then I fired four more times at the motionless body where the bullets lodged without leaving a trace”(Albert 59). After reading this part of the book you could tell there was no emotion in Meursault. After killing someone you would fell some sort of emotion even if that may be hatred, remorse or fear you would think Meursault would show emotion but its like he is made of ice. Another instance of this story being strait forward in the descriptions is when Meursault is at his mother’s funeral. “Then finally she shut up. I didn’t feel drowsy anymore, but I was tired and my back was hurting…

Written by Arthur Miller, the Crucible is a reading filled with many significant and important quotes. One excerpt expresses the hidden dishonesty and deceit within the Puritan society. It says, “There are wheels within wheels in this village, and fires within fires” (28). At this part in the play, Mrs. Anne Putnam is having a dispute with Rebecca Nurse over the reasoning for her many miscarriages. Unlike Mrs. Putnam, Rebecca has been granted with plenty of children making her quite envious over Rebecca. She tries to suggest that maybe the Devil helped her have so many kids. This quote is therefore used by Mrs. Putnam to express her religious knowledge in order to help explain about this mysterious and puzzling event that has been occurring in their quaint village recently.…
