Gary’s dad has been beating up on him and his brother. Gary also sees his mother getting abused, not just beaten up, but she has been sexually assaulted by her husband. the kids can hear this happening at night and cannot sleep when it happens. The physical happens between the two teams battling for the grand final flag. Walking through the Port at night Gary and the team stumble into the Thumper and the rest of the Wangaroo football team. Thumper gets Gary in a headlock for no reason this shows how much of a meathead the Thumper is, it also shows that Gary’s football team won't help him but the only person who helps Gary is Dumby. He gets Gary out of the headlock and takes on the Thumper and wins. this made Gary realised that Dumby is a friend.
