George decides to try to get some money fast to take Myrtle west. He is talking to Tom Buchannan about buying Tom’s car when he explains “I’ve been here too long. I want to get away. My wife and I want to go West” (Fitzgerald 123). Tom does not understand why George wants to move and George answers “I just got wised up to something funny the last two days . . . That’s why I want to get away. That’s why I been bothering you about the car” (Fitzgerald 124). George finds out about Myrtle’s affair, but he does not know she is having it with Tom. George’s last effort to save his marriage is to take Myrtle away from her lover so he can save their marriage. Amos is just like George because he tries to save his marriage as well. Amos tries multiple times by trying to save Roxie and get her a good layer. He struggles with getting enough money and tells Billy Flynn, the lawyer, that “And that’s all I got so far. But I’d give you twenty dollars of my salary every week. I’d give you a note with interest. Double, triple, until every cent is paid, I promise” (Chicago). Amos is giving every cent he owns to pay for Roxie’s lawyer to prove to her that he is still there for her, even though she deceives him. After he shoots Gatsby he commits suicide, most likely because he has nothing to live for now and does not want to face the crime he commits. Amos has a sad ending to his story, but it does not end in him dying like George. Amos tries multiple times to save his marriage, but Roxie is not in love with him.
