Abstract The purpose of this monograph is to explain my experience of airborne school and how finishing the course changed my life. In the following pages I will be explaining how facing my fears changed my outlook on life and how I have used this to my advantage through my military career.
Introduction My story starts in Orlando, Florida as a young troubled 19 year old. Before I joined the army I was in a bit of trouble in school, at home, and even with the law. It even got to the point where I had my license suspended for 5 years for street racing. After appearing in front on a judge and getting this sentence I knew I had to do something to change my life around. This is when I met SSG Hernandez at the recruiting office. He was an airborne paratrooper that had been deployed with the 82nd airborne division. In my eyes he was the man, he was the only one in the office with a red beret and at that point I knew I wanted to get one. So as soon as I enlisted in the army, I also signed up to go to airborne school. There was only one problem, I was extremely afraid of heights. Without even thinking about it, I had just signed up to do one of the toughest experience in my life.
