One of the simplest ways to stay happy is to let go of the things that make you sad. This quote relates to the protagonist Willy in Death of a Salesman was never able to let go of his past and never forget about being abandoned when he was a child. Therefore he was never able to be happy leading him to live a stressful and lonely life although he was surrounded by people who loved him. Loneliness is not being alone but it is the feeling that no one cares. Throughout his life Willy felt like nobody cared for him therefore he always tried to prove to others around him that he was well liked in order to attain their approval.

This scene also deals with the theme of change which is significant to the plot of the story. Because Willy was unable to adapt to change and modernize himself he was left behind unlike Howard who has succeeded in the business world. It also shows us how Willy was not able to grow up into a responsible adult due to being abandoned during his childhood which made him feel like he was unloved thus causing him to seek attention as an adult. It was easy for my partner and I to portray the beginning of the scene because both Willy and Howard were just talking about the machine but as the scene progressed it got more and more emotional especially when Howard told Willy that he is firing him thus making it harder to act out because we had to show more emotions and act more dramatic to make the scene come to life. I also have trouble memorizing things so it took me a long time to memorize the lines. It was the most difficult part of the whole assignment. Our group decided to highlight Howard firing Willy because in this scene Willy was inferior and it shows the similarity between Howard and Willy. They both think that good looks and being well liked lead to success. So in this scene Willy gets a taste of his own medicine. The Poster and the acting was a combined effort on part of my partner and me. We enjoyed working with the props and coming up with ideas to re-enact the scene. We also tried to put ourselves in the characters shoes so we could feel their emotions and accurately act out the scene. In all I enjoyed doing this project.
