As the world was transitioning from the stone age into the copper age a tragic death took place; Oetzi was murdered for power. Oetzi, also known as the iceman, is the world’s oldest unsolved murder. Scientists suspect he was 45 to 50 years old when he was killed. There was a flint arrowhead found in his shoulder and weapons were found near his body. He died more than 5,000 years ago in the Italian side of the Alps and his body was not found until 1991 by hikers trekking through the mountains. During the time of the iceman’s life clans were prevalent in the Tyrol region of Europe. On the day of Oetzi’s death he was involved in a fight against another clan, which led him to flee up into the mountains. Evidence shows that Oetzi took the most difficult route for the most experienced climbers up the mountain, which shows he was obviously trying to escape from something. The other theories such as the iceman being killed for sacrificial reasons does not make sense, because when the killer made his move he pulled out the arrow and doing that during a sacrificial killing would not make sense. Furthermore, they found blood of other people on the iceman’s cloak and if he was killed sacrificially then why would there be blood of another human? In conclusion, the only reasonable explanation as to why Oetzi was murdered is power. The killer struck him from 30 yards away at a 25 degree angle. The arrow shot the iceman in the shoulder, rupturing an artery, and later killing him. His killer was aiming for Oetzi’s heart and must have been a skilled hunter considering he hit a moving target. The iceman’s death was a tragic death occurring more than 5,000 years
